Biosphere-atmosphere exchange fluxes for CO2 from the Vegetation Photosynthesis and Respiration Model VPRM for 2022-2024

Collection
10.18160/R5HS-YKW0 (target, metadata)

VPRM biosphere model results in Europe for 2022-2023. Biosphere-atmosphere exchange flux simulations were performed using:

  • Vegetation Photosynthesis and Respiration Model VPRM (Mahadevan et al., 2008, https://doi.org/10.1029/2006GB002735)
  • VPRM parameters optimized for the year 2007 using 46 sites within Europe (available from www.europe-fluxdata.eu)
  • VPRM preprocessor code version Rev.116
  • VPRM optimization code version Rev.7
  • VPRM offline code version Rev. 13
  • MODIS Terra MOD09A1 surface reflectances version 6.1
  • Downward shortwave radiation and 2m Temperature extracted from analysis and short-term forecast fields from the ECMWF IFS model
  • Landcover classification based on SYNMAP (Jung et al., 2006, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.2006.01.020)

Note that this new version of VPRM fluxes is based on MODIS V6.1 instead of V6.0 as the previous release of 2006-2022 VPRM fluxes (https://doi.org/10.18160/VX78-HVA1). Results for 2022 are provided with both versions for comparison, showing a mean difference in GEE of 0.02%. This allows to cautiously extend the VPRM 2006-2022 dataset with this new version.

This collection is extended yearly, as new model outputs become available.

The collection was updated on 2026-02-24, as a new version for one of the items (GEE for 2024) became available.
