EU-GPP daily gross primary production in Europe 2014-2023
The EU-GPP product provides daily estimates of gross primary production (GPP, gC m-2 d-1) across Europe at 300m spatial resolution from 2014 to 2023. EU-GPP is based on the light use efficiency framework with a biome-specific scalar modelling approach, allowing the model to capture the effect of temperature and water-related stresses on vegetation productivity. Eddy covariance GPP (GPP_DT_VUT_REF) from than 50 ICOS ecosystm stations was used for model training (https://doi.org/10.18160/R3G6-Z8ZH) and validation (https://doi.org/10.18160/YVR0-4898). The input datasets included the satellite-based FAPAR produt from Sentinel-3 and PROBA-V sensors provided by Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (https://doi.org/10.2909/5a38461b-3ef7-4f97-a933-4c9f51a0eda5), ERA5-Land meteorological data (https://doi.org/10.24381/cds.e2161bac), and the land cover map of 2019 provided by Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (https://doi.org/10.2909/c6377c6e-76cc-4d03-8330-628a03693042). Further information on model development, validation, and evaluation is available in Zhang, M., Wang, L., Jamali, S., & Tagesson, T. (2026). A Biome-Specific Light Use Efficiency Model for Spatiotemporal Dynamics of GPP Across Europe Using PROBA-V and Sentinel-3 FAPAR. Remote Sensing, 18(17), 2981. https://doi.org/10.3390/rs18172981.
Note the scale factor = 0.1 applied to the GPP variable values in the netCDF files.
