CarboScope CH4-Rn inversion results for Europe in 2021
Daily methane (CH4) and radon-222 (222Rn) flux estimates for Europe in 2021, derived from the CarboScope-Regional inverse modelling framework. Given are the estimates of the single-tracer CH4-only and 222Rn-only inversions, as well as the dual-tracer CH4-222Rn inversion results. In the dual-tracer inversion, a 222Rn prior flux uncertainty of 30% was assumed for the European annual total flux. Please note that the resulting flux estimates are most reliable over central Europe, which is well covered by the observation sites used in this study. Flux estimates for other regions should be interpreted with caution due to limited observational constraint. For comparison, the prior fluxes used in the inversions are also provided. A detailed description of the prior flux components, including their references, is given in Maier et al. (2026) "Can radon help to improve methane emission estimates? Results from a dual-tracer inversion" (in discussion at Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, https://doi.org/10.5194/egusphere-2026-739).
