The data is a subset of a global hourly dataset of heterotrophic respiration (HR) for 2010–2025, simulated using the LPJ-GUESS dynamic global vegetation model at 0.5° spatial resolution. It is generated by driving LPJ-GUESS (version 4.1, revision 14038) with time series inputs, including ERA5 climate forcing, atmospheric CO₂ concentrations, nitrogen deposition, and land-use data.
Heterotrophic respiration (HR) refers to the carbon released when organic matter in litter and soil is consumed by heterotrophic organisms. Negative values are fluxes into the atmosphere
