The data is a subset of an EU daily dataset of CH₄ uptake by mineral soil for 1981–2023, simulated using the LPJ-GUESS dynamic global vegetation model at 0.5° spatial resolution. The dataset was generated by driving LPJ-GUESS (version 4.1, revision 12177) with time-series inputs, including ERA5 climate forcing, atmospheric CO₂ concentrations, nitrogen deposition, and land-use data.
Mineral soil with low soil moisture content implies oxic conditions which allow bacteria to comsume CH₄ (i.e. mineral soil uptake). The mineral soil uptake is calculated following the procedures outlined by Spahni et al. (2011) (https://doi.org/10.5194/bg-8-1643-2011) and Curry (2007) (https://doi.org/10.1029/2006GB002818), which depend on the atmospheric CH₄ concentration, the CH₄ effective soil diffusion and the CH₄ oxidation rate.
