The Norunda station is located in the southern part of the boreal forest zone. The area is flat with small-scale variations in altitude (up to 10 m). The site is dominated by Norway spruce and Scots pine with a small fraction of birch trees. The stand closest to the tower is about 120 years old and is 26 m tall. The shrub layer is dominated by blueberry, cranberry, moss, and flowers. At a distance of 500 m there are a few clear cuts. There is a small lake 1 km to the North.
