The reed ecosystem is dominated by Phragmites australis and covers more than half of the subsaline Lake Neusiedl. The site is located in the core ("nature") zone of the National Park and is a dynamic mosaic of reed, water and open sediment patches; Lake Neusiedl has been affected by drought since mid-2015.
