The Kenttarova ecosystem station (ICOS code FI-Ken) is situated in northern Finland 170 km north of the Arctic Circle, in the vicinity of the Pallas Global Atmosphere Watch station. Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) H.Karst.) is the dominant tree species in the Kenttarova forest (Hylocomium-Myrtillus type). The main species of the ground floor are Vaccinium myrtillus L., Empetrum nigrum L., Vaccinium vitis-idaea L. and the forest mosses Pleurozium schreberi (Willd. ex Brid.) Mitt., Hylocomium splendens (Hedw.) Schimp. and Dicranum polysetum Sw.. The soil type at the site is podzolic till.
