An experimental site was chosen at Joukouji Natural Recreation Forest in Seto National Forest, Aichi, Japan, located 205 m above sea level on a flat ridge. The site includes a 15–25° slope to the north, south, and west, but it is comparatively flat to the northeast. The site is a secondary broad-leaved forest containing roughly 60% evergreens and 40% deciduous trees. The evergreen trees mainly consist of Ilex pedunculosa and Symplocos prunifolia, while the deciduous trees mainly consist of Quercus serrata and Evodiopanax innovans.Because of the variety of tree species and heights, the site was considered to be suitable for assessing the influence of forest structural heterogeneity on wind profiles. The turbulent fluxes of sensible heat, latent heat, CO2 were measured using the eddy covariance system.
