Lambir Hills National Park consists of two types of vegetation native to Borneo: mixed dipterocarp forest, containing various genera of the Dipterocarpaceae family and covering 85% of the Lambir Hills National Park, and tropical heath forest. The mean canopy height at the study site is approximately 40 m, but emergent treetop height can reach 50 m.The leaf area index is within an average value of 6.2 m2 m-2.The monthly amount of litterfall is comparable throughout the year, suggesting limited seasonal variations of the leaf area index.,Soils consist mainly of red-yellow podzolic soils , also known as Ultisols (soil taxonomy of the United States Department of Agriculture), with high sand content , accumulation of nutrients at the surface horizon, low pH (4.0-4.3), and high porosity.
