The Lampedusa Oceanographic Observatory is an elastic beacon type of buoy operational in the central Mediterranean, run by the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and Sustainabel Economic Development (ENEA). ICOS sensors were deployed in 2021, and complement a large set of additional measurements. In addition to the Oceanographic Observatory, the island of Lampedusa hosts also the ICOS Atmospheric site and an ecosystem site, which was recently activated, allowing for a complete investigation of the carbon cycle in the Mediterranean.
